An archipelago formed by the big island, and by more than 40 smaller islands and a coastal mountain range that crosses the island from north to south. Its reliefs extend to the channels of the interior sea. It has a temperate rainy maritime climate, which gives the perfect conditions for its lush green landscapes, in a scenario that glorifies its myths and legends.

The architecture, is of an incomparable cultural richness, with a very remarkable indigenous European cultural fusion. Currently, there are 60 churches built of wood, of which 16 are part of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity, conferred by UNESCO.

Testimonials

  • turismo chiloe chile

I had the privilege of being the first person to stay in a Chiloé agrotourism, particularly in Hardy & María Luisa's house. That was more than 20 years ago but I remember it as if it were yesterday. The warm and pleasant welcome I received in conversation with them, full of doubts, questions, but also of illusion for this new activity to begin. The warm bed full of blankets and the room in complete silence in the middle of the field, which the roosters will remind us of at dawn. The infinite breakfast, next to the wood-fired kitchen, with the kneaded bread, the murta jam, the natural butter, the freshly caught salmon at the beginning of the day. Chiloé has something magical for its nature, for its environment, but, above all, for its noble, human and simple people. Since that day that beautiful island is a little closer to my land, the Basque Country. Since that day, the dear Dimter-Maldonado family has been part of our lives. Mikel Burzako
    Representative of the Basque Government

As soon as you arrive, you feel part of the family, it's like you've always known them. A magical place, where you connect with all your senses, you go back to your roots. I arrived at the Dimter Maldonado Family home first as journalist, then I returned with my family and I hope return a million times more to embrace them, share a "matecito" in the kitchen and live the Chiloé traditions in a unique way. Without any doubt, in Chiloé one of the most recommended tourist destinations is "Hardy & María Luisa", near Ancud. The hostess, María Luisa Maldonado, is a pioneer in this activity that masterfully mixes Chiloé's gastronomy with walks in the middle of nature that brings together the greatest attractions of the area. And the best thing: the affection, kindness and warmth of the entire Dimter Maldonado family. Alipio Vera

More than 15 years ago I met Hardy & Maria Luisa. I came to stay at their cozy house one weekend, shared a delicious homemade breakfast and since that time it was such a warmth that we have never stopped working together. I like to share with them for their authenticity, for the immense affection with which they develop their work. They have enchanted with their stories and their closeness to many people who are looking for something more than just eating a curanto. They have taught us about Chiloé and its culture, but above all they have taught us to be more entrepreneurial. They are one of my best examples of entrepreneurship, I have seen how they have evolved and grown organically their house, with joy always ahead. That's why I often return with my family, to tour their pampas, row in the river, enjoy their meals and their stories. Felipe Howard
